Cruz is an artist, fine art woodworker, and muralist living one and a half hours north of Philadelphia. As a leading wood stain artist, she creates works on two and three dimensional wood substrates. In her woodwork there is a reverence for the tree and a conscious-awareness. She has coined this quality in her work as "Wàsayū” (wah-sah-yoo), inspired by Japanese perspectives that contrast to the western view of beauty. This view celebrates the beauty of natural age and passing of time. 'Wàsayū' means: profound grace in obscured transient beauty. “My work does not focus on deep philosophical, religious, or political meanings. My interest is raising the human conscious, awakening us to 'awareness' beyond the cluttered mental suffering of the human condition.” Exhibiting her work as early as 1988, she then earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1994. Her works are in national and international private collections. “I am inspired by the French Impressionist, and painters such as Gustav Klimt, and Georgia O’Keeffe; woodworker George Nakashima; and filmmaker/actor/composer Charlie Chaplin. These and others inspire me for having the courage to not imitate but follow their own creative voice.” Several life-shifting events contributed to Cruz’s development of original methods and techniques with wood stain, GrainStain Arts®; and exploration of humanity’s fascination to explain and control all things. “All of my work is a passion. It has uncovered a path that started before I could walk. I’m grateful it led me to this present moment.” — ‘The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science.’ —Albert Einstein | Entry is for sale | www.dninacruz.com | IG @dninacruzart
