Hi, I'm Connie Sandusky, a painter living in Louisville, KY. I love making art- it 's just amazing to me that splashes of color and shape and brushstrokes can connect complete strangers with a shared meaning. Animals provide me with much visual and spiritual inspiration. The Colorful Black Dog is a group of paintings that highlights the desirable personalities of a dozen successful canine citizens. Why paint this? Because a dog with a black coat has the least chance of being adopted and the highest incidence of euthanasia than any other color-even though there is no link between color and temperament. My hope is to help bring awareness to the black dogs' dilemma as well as to our own unconscious profiling. I began painting over 10 years ago while living in Kalamazoo- it's an honor to return to Michigan for ArtPrize 7.
