A native of Western North Carolina, Chris Bell grew up on a farm surrounded by the land that had provided for his family since the early 1800s. His personal connection to the landscape and an interest in the history of Appalachia has always been a source of inspiration for him. Chris formally began his studies as an apprentice to the painter Julyan Davis in Asheville, NC. In 2013, he graduated from Western Carolina University with a B.S. in History and refocused his efforts to develop a body of work that portrays the essence of the landscape. “Wherever I go, I feel an emotional connection with my surroundings. I respond to the lighting, atmospheric effects, and textures of any given place. These elements revive memories for me and attach my thoughts to that particular moment. It is my desire to communicate this with the viewer and provide them with a well-crafted work of art that they can relate to in their own way.” -Chris Bell
