I was born and raised in Michigan. Until I was invited by my cousin to come to Grand Rapids, I hadn't heard about ArtPrize. It was so exciting to see art everywhere and I was inspired to find a way to be part of the show. For as long as I can remember I have been sketching. I eventually got a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from University of South Florida (after starting at Michigan State) and then moved to Wilmington, DE for work. I was lucky enough to be able to study painting and sculpting at the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts. After a twenty year break to work and raise my two children, I started back with figure drawing and then painting in Woodstock, Georgia. I love still life paintings because they are so timeless. There are such subtleties that the eye sees that get lost in photos that I keep coming back to painting directly from life. It was such a thrill to get into ArtPrize last year and I was blessed to have my Flowers with Plums (Yum) shown at the Central Reformed Church. What a blast to celebrate with friends and family in Grand Rapids in September!
