Technician 3

An homage to past and present geeks and brainiacs, Technician 3 uses images, light, sound and found objects to create a site-specific exploration of beauty, the nature of obsolescence, reinvention and rebirth. Comprised of three distinct elements, Technician 3 deploys the structure of physical walls to tear down the metaphorical wall between technology and creativity. Referencing the the sine wave, a 7' high wall built from salvaged high tech equipment undulates through the main space, its myriad knobs inviting tactile exploration. Ethereal images of technicians are projected onto its surface, evoking Cold War nostalgia and science fiction déjà vu. Opposite the main gallery, a backlit wall of vitrines chronicles the evolution of the circuit board with grainy, oversized macro images. Between these two elements, a 2-story wall made up of hundreds of discarded computer circuit boards glows like a stained glass window—a symbol of the sacred status currently conferred to high tech.
