Carlos Tobar

Adrian, MI, United States

Carlos Tobar is continually experimenting with a variety of media and painting styles. The bold expressionism he has developed in his work on canvas demonstrates a passion for life, truth, emotion and color. A resident of southeast Michigan since 1985, Tobar is a retired graphic artist and commercial offset printer. Essentially self-taught, he studied briefly with Martha Caserriedo of Chile at the University of Toronto and also under Russian-born Nicolas Svistoonoff at the Central University of Quito, in his native Ecuador. In recent years, Carlos has challenged his skill by exploring other media, including block printing, clay, mosaic, and stone carving. This is his third participation in ArtPrize. He entered Artprize 2010 with "Pilgrimage III" and Artprize 2011 with "There's An Elephant in the Room", both oil on canvas.
