I graduated from Kalamazoo Valley Community College in December 2013 with an Associates of Applied Science, majoring in art and new media with a minor in illustration. For the last few years, I’ve pursued artistic interests such as taking watercolor classes at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, participating in the Les Cheneaux Antique Boat Show and Festival of Arts as well as showcasing my work at ArtPrize 7 (2015) and ArtPrize 10 this fall. I’m currently taking classes at the Frostic School of Art at Western Michigan University to continue my education and earn a Bachelor’s in Fine Art. The work I am most proud of would be Wild and Free, a 5’ x 8’ acrylic painting that I completed in 2015 and showcased at ArtPrize later that year. Other pieces I’m proud of are the white charcoal on black paper works that I am showcasing at ArtPrize this fall. I am proud of these works because they represent simplistic beauty and I was able to pour the entirety of myself into them. Much of my work over the last few years is focused primarily on nature and wildlife. I enjoy portraiture of wildlife, but also breaking out of that mold in favor of pieces that portray movement and reaction. My creative goals include learning more about the painting and drawing processes as well as expanding my horizons to experiment in other mediums such as sculpting or ceramics. I have enjoyed acrylics, watercolor painting and white charcoal drawing. My long-term goal is to work as a fine artist, an illustrator or a museum/gallery curator.
