Bree Gomez recently received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2010) with an emphasis in sculpture and design. As an artist, she strives to transform spaces into places by creating functional artwork that is accessible, interactive, therapeutic and harmonious within its environment. She works with a variety of sustainable materials including glass (cast and blown), metal, ceramic, wood, light, water and sound. After taking a course last spring with Jaume Plensa (Crown Fountain, Millennium Park), which culminated in a public exhibition at the Richard Gray Gallery, she has been utilizing light and sound to activate public spaces. This past September, her interactive sculpture, Accord was exhibited at the Grand Rapids Art Museum and ranked among the top 25 out of 1,713 artists for ArtPrize 2010. Most recently, her glass installation, Assimilation, was exhibited at Hotel Burnham for Chicago’s Art Loop Open.
