As of 5:00 p.m. today, preliminary numbers of registered ArtPrize venues reached 193 for the 2014 event, topping the 186 registered for ArtPrize 2013.
While venue registration has officially closed, the final tally will not be complete until all venues receive a site visit from the ArtPrize team, which will take place between now and the kickoff of Artist Registration on April 21.
ArtPrize will potentially have 24 new venues, many of them new businesses to the city. The 169 remaining venues include five returning exhibition centers, four showcase venues and 12 city parks/public venues.
Final numbers of participating venues are contingent on each venue connecting with one or more artists before the June 19 deadline.
All ArtPrize Exhibition Centers and Showcase Venues are sponsored sites with a professionally curated exhibition. Exhibition Centers are also official Voter Registration sites and carry ArtPrize retail including event guides and transportation wristbands.
The 2014 ArtPrize Exhibition Centers include:
- Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park
- Grand Rapids Art Museum
- Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University
- Urban Institute for Contemporary Art
The 2014 ArtPrize Showcase Venues include:
- The Women's City Club
- Cathedral Square
- The Grand Rapids Public Museum
- St. Cecilia Music Center
The ArtPrize Premiere Event will take place Wednesday, April 23 at the ArtPrize HUB, located at 41 Sheldon Blvd. The Premiere Event is traditionally the unveiling of the poster for the upcoming ArtPrize event, but this year it also marks the debut of a new hardcover book covering the first five years of ArtPrize.
ArtPrize also promises some exciting announcements about those selected to decide this year's Juried Awards, as well as the introduction of a new program specifically for participating artists.
The event is open and free to the public, and begins at 7:00 p.m.By Brian Burch on
