Now in its eighth year, ArtPrize continues to invest in and evolve a technology platform that has changed the way audiences engage with contemporary art

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan (JULY 26, 2016) – ArtPrize, the radically open international art competition decided equally by public vote and expert jury, today announced the launch of the ArtPrize Eight mobile app, created in partnership with Atomic Object. The 2016 iteration of the mobile app -- now available for download in the Apple and Google Play stores -- takes the next leap in providing an authentic visitor experience, where technology enables a human-to-human connection and a real experience with contemporary art. ArtPrize Eight is slated to take place in Grand Rapids, Michigan from September 21- October 9, 2016.

“ArtPrize is an ever-evolving experiment, and technology is an essential catalyst within it. After eight years, we’re excited to still be leading the way audiences engage contemporary art through the use of technology," said Jonathan Hunsberger, ArtPrize Director of Technology.

The intersection of art and technology has been at the heart of the ArtPrize event from the beginning; powering the public vote, providing a platform for the artist-venue connections process, and influencing the way artists make and share their work with the public. Since its inception, ArtPrize has sought to understand the demands and realities of event visitors, and to provide effective solutions. Over the last eight years, the organization has built upon this knowledge by leveraging the cloud for more effective data integrations; deploying an effective artist and venue registration process; completely rebuilding the ArtPrize mobile experience; and introducing an Android app.

Each year, ArtPrize creates an updated iteration of its mobile app, including expanded features and capability to allow mobile voter registration, user-traffic management, and broader content -- all built within a flexible design layout to render the best representation of artwork. Today’s ArtPrize mobile app is making the human experience with art more fulfilling by enhancing the way that audiences engage with contemporary art. It serves as an essential part of the ArtPrize experience -- creating a space for visitors to explore off the beaten path and discover all that the event has to offer.

ArtPrize Eight Mobile App Features
Alongside the mainstay public vote module, ArtPrize visitors will find new and updated tools to power their experience. The popular List feature returns, allowing visitors to browse the 1,453 participating artist entries; create unlimited lists of the work individuals most want to see; and share those lists publicly and with friends and family through social media and email. The Discover View delivers ArtPrize blog and event calendar integration -- continuously updated with important ArtPrize announcements, special events and on-the-fly happenings in the lead up to and during the event itself. In addition to highlighting events taking place nearby, the improved Interactive Map offers filtering and sorting options for the 171 ArtPrize Venues -- to help visitors easily navigate to accessible venues, public restrooms, and public parking options.

As always, the ArtPrize mobile app is a great way for visitors to cast their votes -- determining the winners of half of the $500,000 in prizes. Visitors can vote via the mobile app, online at artprize.org, and by text message (SMS). Voters will be able to register while downtown via the mobile app and cast their votes either from within the event boundaries or wherever their day may lead them. For the second year, Meijer mPerks members using the mobile app can participate in the Meijer mPerks rewards program. The first 30,000 mPerks members to use the ArtPrize mobile app and opt-in to the ArtPrize mPerks promotion will earn one exclusive mPerks offer.

Part of a suite of technology-based audience engagement tools, the ArtPrize Eight mobile app is now available for download in the Apple and Google Play stores -- offering an entryway into the 19-day event and bringing on-demand, real-time information right to visitors’ fingertips.

ArtPrize Eight will take place from September 21 to October 9, 2016 within three square miles of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan -- where everyone is invited to join the conversation about what is art and why it matters, and ultimately decide the winners of $500,000 in cash prizes.
