ArtPrize Gangnam Roadshow top 10 finalists celebrate at the awards ceremony.

GRAND RAPIDS (Michigan) OCTOBER 7, 2019 — ArtPrize is partnering with the Amway Korea Foundation to present an exciting three-part international event that will celebrate Korean artists in Seoul and bring their work to ArtPrize 2020 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Part 1: ArtPrize Gangnam Roadshow

The first phase recently took place in Seoul. ArtPrize Gangnam Roadshow was an ArtPrize-inspired event where over a hundred artists displayed work in ten venues from September 20 to October 4. The venues were all design retailers on Nonhyun Furniture Street in Seoul’s Gangnam district. Much like ArtPrize, visitors were able to vote on their favorite artworks. The top ten all received cash prizes.

Part 2: ArtPrize Gangnam Showcase

The second phase is ArtPrize Gangnam Showcase, which will happen in Seoul in early 2020. This will be an adaptation of ArtPrize’s Pitch Night program. At these one-night events, five artists each present a proposal for what they’d like to bring to ArtPrize, in front of a live audience and a panel of judges. The judges then select which artist will receive a grant to realize their work in Grand Rapids. In the case of ArtPrize Gangnam Showcase, the five presenting artists will be drawn from the ten public vote finalists of ArtPrize Gangnam Roadshow. The winner of ArtPrize Gangnam Showcase will receive a $25,000 grant to help bring their artwork to ArtPrize 2020 in Grand Rapids, MI.

The five artists who will pitch their ideas at the ArtPrize Gangnam Showcase are:

308 Art CrewInfinity Wall

Shim, SeaumCollection—Endangered Species

Hong, Chae Yeon Singing and Dancing Man

COLO7 Portrait of Name

Lee Jung Dong The Intersection of Time

Part 3: ArtPrize 2020

The third element is the presentation of the winning work as part of the ArtPrize 2020 exhibition at DeVos Place Convention Center. It will join hundreds of other artists participating in the return of the ArtPrize competition.

Photos of the artwork the five finalist artists will pitch, as well as images from the top ten award ceremony, are available to download here.

ArtPrize 2020 is slated to take place in Grand Rapids, Michigan from September 16 to October 4. On October 26, 2019, the ArtPrize organization will reveal more exciting developments for the 2020 competition, including new proprietary technology, enhanced site activations and more.
