IIn retirement Bill Franz bought a camera, learned how to use it, and became a volunteer photographer. He has done photo projects for dozens of local nonprofits. Bill's fine art photos have appeared in solo and group art exhibitions throughout Ohio and neighboring states. All profits from the sale of those photos go to nonprofits. A few years ago Bill visited and photographed artist Mike Elsass. That visit lead Bill to write a newspaper article and then a book about Mike Elsass. Bill thought that Mike's work, which he called "scrap metal with a thin coat of pretty" spoke to the link between our industrial past and our current economy, and he tried merging some of his photographs of the Midwest with Mike's works. That lead to a collaboration between the two artists and this joint entry in ArtPrize 10.
