Betsy O'Neill is a self taught artist from Grand Rapids, Michigan. She has been working with oil and acrylic paints for more than 16 years, finding time to paint in the evenings and on weekends. Her primary sources of inspiration range from the highlights of her hometown Grand Rapids, also memory filled destinations throughout the state of Michigan, and her own vibrant urban garden. Her work proves her deep appreciation of nature. She is often influenced by the way light plays on a subject and by finding small focal points of beauty in a seemingly ordinary scope. Re-creating mundane objects into something delightful is what she loves best. To capture a fleeting memory or emotion with her paintbrush is what Betsy considers the ultimate achievement. Betsy has been pleasantly occupied with many commissions for landscapes, city-scapes, animals, and even murals. She has repeatedly been welcomed to display collections in a popular downtown restaurant. Her work has been approved and included in local juried art competitions. She recently earned an honorable mention in the Grand Rapids Regional Art Competition. Currently, Betsy is working on a collection called "Michigan Highlights" that will be displayed in Art Prize 2016. "Michigan Highlights" will feature between 20-25 original pieces and prints. She is motivated with her brush to expound on historical architecture, favorite destinations, and the beautiful natural landscapes of Michigan.
