Beth Calhoun

Clute, TX, United States

Hello, My name is Beth Calhoun, and I am a grandmother from Texas. I discovered the joy of painting with watercolors almost 20 years ago, when I took a six week class. I have done still life, landscapes, historical buildings, and children, but the paintings that I enjoy the most are of sculptures. I love thinking of the person sculpted, their life, and trials, and what they have to teach us. I also love thinking about the sculptor and how the work was done. This way I honor both the person represented in the sculpture, as well as the artist who created it. A few years ago during a tour through Meijer Gardens I came across the sculpture of an beautiful Ethiopian woman and she took my breath away. I quickly snapped a photo, and thus began this journey. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. The title of this work is "African Beauty", and this watercolor was painted with the wet on dry technique (that means wet paints on dry paper) using watercolor and watercolor pencils.
