I am an artist living and working in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I paint abstract works in a gestural, intuitive and expressive style. My work often contains blended color fields punctuated by energetic lines and brushstrokes. There is movement and energy, but also calm and quiet. I'm inspired by water, birds, flowers, the sky, the seasons, and poetry. My works evoke memories of place and moments of wonder. I hope that you find something of your own experience in them. Of the many influences on my work are Monet, J.M.W. Turner, and Joan Mitchell. I am a self-taught artist who began painting in 2014 after the death of a friend. I have a background in art history and I also work for Kendall College of Art and Design. My works are in private collections throughout the United States and have been featured in Vanity Fair. When not painting, I like to walk my two greyhounds or enjoy time on my porch in Eastown. You can find also find me on Instagram @benjamin.boss.art
