In the mid 1950's Bart won national prizes in Soap Box Derby entries, and Fisher Body (GM) car design contests. At an early age he learned shop work in woodworking, cabinetry, die casting, blacksmithing, welding and tin smithing. Tin smith work continues as he designs custom cookies and constructs the copper cutters for O MY GOODNESS COOKIES, a commercial supplier to major retailers and catalogues nationally. Education includes BS in Civil Engineering Cornell U. MS & teaching fellow at Northwestern U. in Operations Research and Systems Analysis; and PG work in SBIC management and MAI appraisal. Career in industrial/business park development, real estate appraisal, EDA consultant, commercial/industrial construction, Managing Director of Buskiirk Lumber Co. and the Conway Corp. (both near Grand Rapids), and the Seattle Steam Corp. Financial V.P./Director of General American Realty, Abbott Capital, KPK Corp. and Cushman & Wakefield ( International real estate services). Recently donated classic tinsmith shop to Tillers International ( near Kalamazoo) a 19th Century teaching farm. Active at Oxbow (Saugatuck), and Plein Air Artists of Western Michigan (PAAWM). Show oil paintings annually at Sawgrass CC (three times "Fireplace Contest " winner) and the Cultural Center in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Art interests include sculpture in wood, bronze, glass, sheet metal, wrought iron, ceramics, stone lithography, encaustic oils, tin lighting, as well as portraits in oil and watercolors. Antiques dealer (eBay and Saugatuck Antique Pavilion)- specialty in Early American primitives, vintage duck decoys, and folk art. Collector and author in the field of Civil War Tokens and duck decoys. Married 57 yrs. (Carol Herriott) , 4 children 8 grandchildren. Regualr participant in golf and competitive bridge. Stay active after 80! "Art can be fun and whimsical as well as visually pleasing".
