Audrey Summers Smith paints from her home in Leelanau County, Michigan. Audrey has recently shown her work at Art Bomb and The Art Mixer in Traverse City, Michigan. She has always loved art and feels a lifelong connection to nature and animals, finding inspiration in their beauty and grace. She has been especially inspired by the unique beauty found in Africa animals. Some of her favorite artists are Gustav Klimt, Pablo Picasso and Georgia O’Keefe. Audrey was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and a couple of days after was diagnosed with Velocardiofacial Syndrome, which required open-heart surgery at four days old. She has since undergone two more open-heart surgeries. The syndrome can also lead to emotional issues, such as anxiety, and learning disabilities. Audrey turns to painting to find calm and strength and to help her manage the complex emotions that she sometimes faces. “When I’m painting, I feel I can do whatever I want. I am in my own world and it makes me not worry about anything. It puts all of my worried emotions away,” she says.
