Alyssa Rainwater is a painting and illustration graduate at Grand Valley State University interested in books, zines, and autobiographical work. Her interest in art started at a young age when she was introduced to drawing, and her motivation grew continually stronger in it as she got older and was introduced to art history and oil painting. Initially influenced by the Neo- Expressionist movement her work gives a sense of emotional intimacy, while still exploring a more grounded reality. In her personal work, Alyssa is interested in using self portraiture and environments to explore the conflicting and sometimes confusing overwhelming moments of life. Her zine work is also autobiographical and incorporates text from journal entries, and a looser relationship to the imagery than seen in larger work. Alyssa is interested in collaborating with writers and publishers, while maintaining a strong relationship with her personal work.
