We are a British artist couple resident in France, collectively known as Hipkiss. Working together since 1983, over the years we have become specialists in drawing, which is almost our sole medium. We create on all practicable scales; our largest piece is over 33 feet long while the smallest are 4.7"x3.7". Our work is the result of a genuine symbiosis: no part of the creative process is the product of one of us alone. Our daily lives and experiences are melded in an on-going dialogue; not only do we develop the techniques together, but every work has multiple possibilities in the course of its creation due to the interplay between us. We live and work in the countryside but remain fascinated by the socio-political landscapes of urban environments; the combination draws us inexorably to explore the hinterland between the two. Our aim is, and has always been, to express themes from the natural world in relation to human experience via our invented symbolic language. Hipkiss is represented in the collections of the John Michael Kohler Art Center, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Cindy Sherman, FRAC Picardie, Antoine de Galbert and The Whitworth, among others. The work has been shown at Tate Britain, Whitechapel, David Zwirner, La Maison Rouge, New Museum, The Irish Museum of Modern Art, La Caixa and The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art. Three-times recipients of the Pollock-Krasner Award.
