The Great Seal

I’m a British artist who enjoys engaging with history through caricature. My ArtPrize entry celebrates the fascinating history of America’s most famous national emblems and the people who moulded them. The painting depicts great historical figures, such as George Washington, Ben Franklin and Betsy Ross. Also pictured is the unsung designer of the now definitive Stars & Stripes: Michigan man Bob Heft. And there are concealed references to other great stories from America’s rich past. Inspiration for this painting came from the links my home county of Northamptonshire shares with American history. For instance, Benjamin Franklin visited my home village of Ecton in 1758; and down the road from me is George Washington’s ancestral home. If you enjoy learning about history through art, come visit me at the Holiday Inn Downtown Grand Rapids, and please consider voting for my ArtPrize entry.
