Susan Holeman

Kalamazoo, Michigan,

I am an intuitive story teller. I paint with gouache paint 300# cold press paper and I work with earthen ware with under glazes, glaze, luster, and rub and buff; sometimes adding other material such as copper or beads. The brilliant colors of my gouache pallet which is the medium for my paintings and the organic feel of the clay in my hands gives the creative energy which flows into art. My work comes from an inspiration sparked from a source unconsciously known by me. But, I am conscious of an evolution within myself through my art. My paintings and my ceramics are a process and passion of my expression of my being. Therefore, there is no plan when I create. I'm usually not aware of what is coming through the color selection of my brush. There are no mistakes, only surprizes and then a story evolves. Each detail is a part of the whole. Each person viewing my work has their own interpretation of the story of my expression.
