From Quarantine

Annelise Pollard's avatar Annelise Pollard

This series is a collection of eight works that I made while in quarantine. My watercolor squares come from old paintings that I made and cut up into squares, no larger than a centimeter. My goal is to create something new with materials that already exist. I examined the compositions and details of individual squares and decided to scale them up from a centimeter to 9x9 inches. The larger scale pieces are composed of squares as well. My artwork allows the viewer to not only appreciate the detail of the original square, but also the details that make up the final scaled-up artwork. Brushstrokes, bleeding colors, and composition are all details that draw the eye into the individual square. When the size is increased, the viewer can fully appreciate these points of interest. The individual square next to the scaled-up work so the viewer can compare and understand where the final work originated. This continues the process of creating something new from what I already have.
