Where have all the cowboys gone...

The photo is by L.A. Huffman from 1882-1883 and is titled Throwing the Herd on Water. Huffman subsequently hand-colored and copyrighted the photo. He knew barbed wire, a new technology, had brought an end to the era of independent lifestyle on the open range. The sleeper box came off a Peterbilt or Kenworth. I found it reminiscent of this photo taken a century earlier. There is always nostalgia for those eras and lifestyles inevitably transformed by innovation and advancing technology.
