Endangered Specie

Farrer Coston's avatar Farrer Coston

My entry is an abstracted humanoid walking sculpture composed of epoxy fiberglass laminated wood arms, legs and head connected by lag bolts to a powder coated welded steel torso functioning as neck/spine, shoulders and hips. The feet are connected to feet plates with holes to facilitate lag bolts into the feet and horizontal access through the ankles for threaded bolts. There are holes in the feet plates for anchoring with cement anchors where possible. Wire to earth anchors to secure from the hips and possibly elsewhere may be required on grass. I am currently modeling two heads both of which resemble eyes, to convey vision and humanity. I will be painting an animal marking on the legs and arms to denote an animal connection. My intent was to create a sense of urgency into the pose, a walk of purpose. I tried to enter the piece in 2017 but was unable to complete it. I put it in storage in 2018 and became my mothers sole caregiver, until her passing this April.
