Dreaming In Metaphors

Daniel Walker's avatar Daniel Walker

Inspired by the literary work of James Baldwin, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Maya Angelou; Dreaming In Metaphors explores a variety of themes such as isolation, despair, and our interconnected humanity through the natural world. Blending fragmented monochromatic shapes with a naturalistic rendering of the figure, I wanted to create a tension of self and surroundings. In a self-imposed state of seclusion, the moon acts as a watchful eye while providing testament that we all share the same planet. My hope is this work will connect with anyone who has struggled to find their own way in a world that has met human suffering with indifference. As Baldwin famously said, “Neither love nor terror makes one blind: indifference makes one blind."
