Vincent’s Garden

This is a work in progress...these three 20”x20” paintings shown here are the initial color studies in preparation for the larger scale fluid acrylic and epoxy resin pour painting, to be completed on two 48”x 60” canvasses hung side by side, a type of diptych, forming one whole piece, encompassing 5’of height x 8’ width of total space. In this piece titled “Vincent’s Garden”, I imagine what it would be like to be able to sit in VanGogh’s favorite garden, seeing with his eyes and reflection the brilliance and vibrancy of color and texture in nature. The painting style is abstract, foregoing traditional form, instead using the beauty and purity of color as expression. My painting combines the pouring and layering of acrylic paints and tinted epoxy-resins, then use of a rubber mallet to SMASH puddles of layered colors, creating the garden’s flowers in an explosion of color, before gently blowing the soft edges of petals. Multiple layering of epoxy resins add depth and dimension, leaving a finished piece appearing much like stained glass.
