*This piece is in progress, with a planned completion date of midsummer.* The website is having some trouble saving a quality copy of the images- check out Comrades are the people who stand along side you amidst life and struggle; who support each other as they try to take the next step forward. This is an oil portrait of three Michigan organizers, friends, and comrades: set in a living room where key meetings, discussions, and planning took place. The figures are surrounded by objects and texts the reflect their relationships, history and work. I am fascinated by the humanity of people working to change the world: by their dedication despite their flaws, and their greatness even amidst difficult or humble circumstances. I see my work as a bridge between the complex feelings that motivate organizers and people outside of this work. My paintings work to elevate, explore, humanize, and valorize- connecting the viewer and subject to the struggle.
