Standing Guard

This is my attempt to recreate Sand Hill Cranes using different metals to express the different colors of their feathers. Each of the birds has 55 feet of steel wire formed and welded together to make the armature which was then covered with wire screen and a layer of epoxy. Then the long task of making each individual feather started. All of the feathers were hand cut from the different metals, shaped, and then put in place. All of the larger feathers were epoxy glued and nailed in place. I could have bought glass eyes for a few dollars each but I chose to make the eyes myself.
