Revolutionary

About the artwork: "Revolutionary" is a mosaic, consisting of ~15,000 hand-painted LEGO bricks. The mosaic shows Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. addressing the Los Angeles Freedom Rally in May, 1963. This mosaic is best viewed in person. Subtle details including Dr. King's facial features, ripples in the fabric of his coat, and faces in the crowd emerge when viewing from different distances and vantages. About the artist (Instagram @brickmosaics; accepting commissions): I discovered LEGO as an artistic medium in 2013, while visiting a LEGO store in Chicago. There I was fascinated by a mosaic of the Chicago Skyline. I could barely believe my eyes nor comprehend how geometric LEGO building blocks in so few colors could be used to create beautifully detailed artwork. I was inspired to create LEGO mosaics of my own. "Revolutionary" is my 18th LEGO mosaic. While creating this artwork I listened to many of Dr. King's sermons and speeches, making me feel like I was a member of the audience.
