Augmented Realities [sculpture]

CG Ryan's avatar CG Ryan

Playful and surreal, Augmented Realities invites visitors to experience dreamscape portals of hidden worlds in moving collage. The 12-panel hanging sculpture uses Augmented Reality to reveal animations created from 360 video of Midwest and coastal locations (desert, beaches, rivers, parks, farms) to transcend physical place and show interplays of imagination and perceptions. Augmented Reality blurs the separation between art and the viewers' physical world, demonstrating that alternative ways of seeing can be found just beneath the surface. The experiences transport the viewer between open landscapes and interior spaces, exploring the tension between the desire to be safe with the longing to be free. By experiencing these Augmented Realities through this new media sculpture, my hope is that people may look at their own worlds as individual constructions, see underlying interconnections between different world views, and reimagine their choices in how they see their own realities.
