Waiting on the Light

Jennifer O'Meara's avatar Jennifer O'Meara

Artist Jennifer O'Meara, of Evergreen, Colorado is exhibiting for the seventh time since exhibiting at the first Artprize in 2009. The artwork titled, "Waiting on the Light" is five feet tall by eight feet wide, and is a mixed media with encaustic wax depicting the artist's favorite iconic subject - a barn - this time placed in the midst of a dark and dangerous storm. O'Meara has been creating her body of work since 1991 with barns as a recurring theme. "I see barns first for their color and form; second for their iconic representation. In fact, their iconic stature both informs and is informed by my representation of them." O'Meara's contemporary interpretation of barns is a hallmark of her style, and this year's piece extends on the characteristic placement of the barn front and center with very little perspective represented other than through shadow and light. The barn is placed in juxtaposition between darkness and light of a looming mid-western storm.
