The Magician's Tournament

Sharron Ott's avatar Sharron Ott

The Tournament of Magic . The Tournament of Magic, emerged seemingly of it’s own accord. Serenely, characters materialized on the canvas, splendid in their costumes while performing phenomenal feats. The images came first, and only one at a time, with almost no master plan. The plot wrapped around the already active visuals. I have put 5 parts to the story here to parade across the walls of Artkos Meadery. There are 13 collage paintings in all, accompanied by text, they create a picture book. This is also called, “The Tournament of Magic”. I carefully craft my pieces on canvas using layers of antique paper, chalk, and acrylic paint. You might observe other collage elements as well, if you look closely. As a lifelong painter, and designer, I have had the pleasure of working in the theatre as a scenic and costume artist. This influence is apparent in the choice of subject matter within my work. Native to Chicago, I have a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Currently I teach art at the Krasl Art Center in St. Joseph Mi, and with Blue Dart Art in Cass County Mi. Living now in Dowagiac, I exhibit at various places throughout the MidWest.
