The community of Lowell, MI has come together since 2008 to fight cancer in a large event called Pink Arrow Pride. Millions of dollars have been raised to support the cause and those suffering in the community by selling pink t-shirts. Playing off of what the community does well, we wanted to bring the community together towards a common goal of understanding each other. We had 600+ old shirts donated to use as our material, cut them up in strips, and asked community members and students to write their hopes and dreams on the strips. We handed out 180 kits, with written instructions including links to videos explaining our why and how to. We asked one person per community group or class to weave their groups’ dreams into an Amish Knot circle. At the Pink Arrow Pride game the circles were dropped off and woven together to create a single tapestry of dreams. We ask the larger community to participate with us. Please write down your dream and we will add it to the tapestry.
