Covid Time CAPSule

Donna Dzialo's avatar Donna Dzialo

I am a nurse and two years ago I began saving drug vial caps which are normally thrown out. Depicted here are over 280 different cap color, size, shape and texture varieties with over 6,000 total caps. During assembly additional covers proved valuable: IV tubing, line extensions, glucose needles. Also great coworkers saved and contributed their caps. I individually glued all items to represent: Covid (top left corner), entering the infected purple cell (below), next Covid forms into infected intracellular particles (multicolored circles) and viral replication begins at the red 'mRNA' chain, then Covid clusters form (mostly of lime green caps and flag shaped tabs) in order to spread. We have immune defenses: White Blood Cells (WBC), Antibody Producing Cell (orange) and Antibodies (yellow windmill structures), and at the top right corner you see a spidery looking cell, it is a Natural Killer Cell (in front of a WBC). Healthy cells (bottom right), in shades of Blue/Green are protected.
