The figure drawings were done while drawing at home & praying for our world, at the start of the pandemic, influencing my choice of the reverent pose of figures on their knees. Also, I regularly pray about my art. I saw God with me once again, when seeking guidance in selecting my 2021 Artprize entry (among 2 options in mind). The night before this prayer, I happened to watch a news show about black persons disproportionately stopped while driving, including sad accounts of stops at times unjustly ending in death. So it was striking, the next morning, when I prayed about my art entry, & my Bible devotion spoke of a person running into trouble with being stopped by police while driving; especially since 'taking a knee' has been used as a symbolic voice, & one entry I had in mind was this group of drawings of kneeling figures. My art serves to share God's care & real presence among us. That devotion Word also explained that our strength comes not from self, but in turning to God.
