Tile has been my medium of choice for 30 years, and Michigan has always been my home. These murals are the love children of the union of my contemporary sense of color, my enchantment with traditional pattern, my love of our wonderful state and my unique aesthetic sense. These murals unite several of my artistic passions: color combinations, colors in transition and traditional decorative pattern. The murals depict the nuanced colors of Michigan’s trees, plants and skies as the seasons turn. Each panel represents a seasonal transition: winter to spring, spring to summer, summer to fall, and fall to winter. The murals have been designed to give the viewer many interpretations of the pattern depending on the viewing distance and balance of dark and light. The colors highlight the different ways the pattern can be visually understood and represent the colors of the natural world in Michigan.
