Heaven's Declarations

Laurie Shooltz's avatar Laurie Shooltz

My entry consists of a series of six paintings. The paintings are my interpretation of images of space objects. Most of the images are based on photos taken from the Hubble space telescope. The Hubble Telescope was launched in 1990. When images started being published, I was amazed and mesmerized at the expanse and beauty of space and God's creation. The Bible verse Psalm 19:1 states: The heavens declare the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. In the past few years I decided that I would like to recreate these images as works of art. These paintings are completed using mostly fluid art techniques. The media used is a non-toxic gel stain called Unicorn Spit. I enjoy using unicorn spit because the colors are bright, highly pigmented and water-soluble. Because of these properties, I am able to add water to the stain to help it to flow as needed to get those beautiful smoky-looking structures you see in the images from space.
