Intention Seekers

Lisa Smith Williamson's avatar Lisa Smith Williamson

“To understand the life of the shore it is not enough to pick up an empty shell and say, ‘this is a murex’ or ‘that is an angel wing.’ True understanding demands intuitive comprehension of the whole life of the creature that once inhabited this empty shell.” (Marine biologist and environmentalist, Rachel Carson) "Intention Seekers" will be a series of life-sized cairn-like structures made from discarded, rejected, empty and mundane materials. They are monuments to new heroes, the unmonumental and everyday. They are memorials to shared and relatable moments. Breaks, gaps, and glitches in the shell-like structures will invite close inspection of materials and unexpected encounters with others. Derived from extensions of good-will to those who pass, the empty shells serve as memorials to lived experience, while their interdependent construction are monuments to a collective in the process of becoming community.
