Nox Imago (“Night images.” Imago also describes the true representation of a character) is a project that grew out of my view of social media. We turn the camera onto ourselves to tell our story, but then we distort, mask, or control how we are perceived by others. By using reflection in a figurative and literal sense, I turned the camera onto itself to create a distorted view of the original images. Avoiding Photoshop/graphics software, I created layers of the same image that I captured repeatedly off of reflective surfaces and achieved different color themes based on the time of day or ambient lighting. Presenting them on aluminum panel achieves a vibrant, polished product that is in strong contrast with the dark, humorous, or abstract subject matter…much like how we present ourselves in an increasingly digital world.
