"Remember me. collect series"

"In this divisive time, my intention is to remind us of our commonalities." "Remember me. collect" is 150 found studio portrait proofs, hand-embroidered with found text, framed in found vintage metal frames, installed to suggest a familiar everyday place. These extraordinary FACES were residents of La Porte, IN, in the mid-20th century, photographed by Frank Pease, Muralcraft Studios. They memorialized important times in their lives by sitting for a PHOTOGRAPHIC PORTRAIT (50,000 proofs were abandoned when the studio closed). The hand-embroidered TEXTS describe what average people collect, an interesting detail of a life often mentioned in obits written by loved ones. Everyone collects something. Collecting represents and reinforces one's personal sense of identity, brings feelings of pleasure and belonging. These accumulated memories call attention to UNIVERSAL ASPECTS OF HUMAN EXPERIENCE. The installation is humorous and poignant—personal stories span and connect in time and space.
