The appreciation for my succulent painting comes from my love for plants; starting with the first jade plant that was given to me by my grandmother. Plants can provide a mirror into how we’re doing on the inside. They’re a great reminder of when, and how, to take care of ourselves. These types of succulents are rich in desirable soft colors with chalky qualities. I used a bold pastel color scheme to ensure that the plant still has its natural color. The chalky substance on the leaves of these plants is designed to protect the plant from the sun. I also like the idea of using water based paint to create such a unique and strong plant. Because these plants are comprised of mostly water, they require very little to survive and are able to grow from leaves of the mothering stock. You can simply twist off a leaf and replant it to create a new plant. We’re all a part of nature, and although many of us can feel cut off from it, plants show us just how connected we all are.
