Zach Mory's avatar Zach Mory

One week before the stay-at-home order was put into place, I had a long phone conversation with a former professor of mine. The timing was good. I developed a character that was a stand-in for my current emotional state and interactions with the world. Using old cartoon tropes such as bulging eyes, white gloves, and comical proportions, this new “vessel” could help me tell stories more effectively. From March of 2020 till today, we have seen a global pandemic, political unrest, racial strife, police brutality, variants, multiple waves, and so much more. As an artist predominantly working in abstraction for many years, this foray into Magic Realism (artists such as John Wilde and Gertrude Abercrombie have been significant influences on this series) was refreshing, scary, and reinvigorating. I will be displaying 14 drawings from this ongoing series. IG handle is @zdmory. See more work there!
