Father!

Kroeze Krew

[Pictures show carving in process 4.14.20] "Father!" is an interpretation of the biblical story of The Lost Son (Prodigal Son). Life-size figures are carved out of red oak, remnants of a tree taken down in our back yard. The main piece represents the lost son upon his return, falling down into the father, grabbing his waist to hold him. The father grabs the son around his back and shoulders to hold him up. The secondary, separate piece is of the older son, who stands in shock over what he is seeing. A key symbolic feature is that each holds a hand to his head--the lost son out of humble penitence, the father out of amazing joy, the oldest son out of angry resentment. The viewer is invited to contemplate her/his place in this story as an encouragement to find and express grace, forgiveness and restoration.
