What happens to the words we speak? A thought given voice will take wing, and how will it change the world? As I planned and created this piece with my art students at Adams Elementary, we talked about how words that we speak and hear are important. How are we choosing to speak to each other? How are we listening? What are we learning about others from the words they speak? How are our words put into action? What words are so important to us that we want to share them with the world? We used words and lines of motion in our bird designs to illustrate our ideas and thoughts on these questions. We hope that our message is More Than Words....

About Zeeland Public Schools: Adams Elementary
I am an art teacher in the Zeeland Public Schools. I have over 600 students in grades K-5 in two elementary buildings. This piece was created in art classes with my 354 students at Adams Elementary in grades kindergarten through fifth. Each student created a bird design on paper with black ink which I then arranged and collaged onto a painted canvas.
