Myopic Obsession

Victor Fitzsimons's avatar Victor Fitzsimons

Myopic Obsession is an ongoing series of abstract drawings. Each composition is comprised of lines that fill a field, ideally as near to each other as possible without intersecting. The lines are drawn freehand in pen. The aim of this series is to encapsulate the result of accumulated energy in a physical object, and explore the textures and effects that emerge. Quantum Field Theory partially influences these works: just as QFT models all particles as fluctuations in and interactions between force fields that permeate the universe, each Myopic Obsession demonstrates how perturbations in related lines spread across a field, sometimes amplifying a wobble or diminishing a turbulent ripple. In no way are these meant to illustrate any concepts from QFT. Rather, I hope these works will provide a platform for the sighted to contemplate the phenomenon of vision, the experience of time, and the investment of energy into the activities that make up our lives.
