She Picked Roses

An original illustration, inspired by a photograph of my daughter carefully picking clover at the age of 4. As she has gotten older, the clover are more like roses, fleeting innocence. Although you want to protect your loved ones. You can’t, they must learn for themselves. So you have to watch, as they carelessly make choices, regardless of the potential of thorns. The illustration is carved into wood, the meditative process took about 100 hours. The block is then rolled with ink and pressed into paper. Hand-colored. Limited edition. #woodblock #reliefprint #mixedmedia #innocense #childhood #surrealism “She’ll pick roses, relentlessly with naive vigor, soft to the touch, beholder of beauty, sweet to the senses, no matter how sharp the threat.”
