Women's Picnic

Yikes!!!! 😝And here it is y'all, my 2018 Art Prize submission! It’s a drawing I made by referencing an old photo belonging to my grandmother, Lucile French. The photo, taken July 21, 1954 in front of the Michigan Trust building in Grand Rapids, Michigan, shows my grandmother, along with 70 of her colleagues, presumably from Butterworth Hospital, prior to their departure for a picnic. This will be my first Art Prize and the first time I have shown my art like this to the public! I also just started drawing about a year and a half ago. The process of creating a piece to this magnitude has been a marathon on paper, but an experience for which I am truly grateful. It has shown me that big ideas will come to fruition if you eliminate your self doubt and put in the work to make them happen. What is also cool about this photo is that it turns out my grandma was pregnant with my mom at the time! We didn't realize until after I began drawing it. Thank you, and please vote! :)
