“ANGEL” Jeff Badarak, Artist 2008-2018 Most of the construction of this Angel happened in the summer of 2008 while I was living in Arizona. It was one of my earliest large sculptures and my first human figure. It has never felt completed until now. How old is the word angel? The earliest writing of angel is in Mycenaean Linear B syllabic script, 14th to 12th century B.C. Since the beginning of time, stories have been passed down about visitations by angels; messages delivered, visions relayed, guidance given, fears calmed. Angels cross all boundaries, are seen and depicted in all religions, and are heralded in song and art. As ancient messenger spirits, angels deliver vision, protection, inspiration and hope. They have been with us since the beginning and are said to be at the end. My thoughts, musings on the philosophy of angels, brings me to this new age. Are angels our higher selves? Connection to the Almighty “What Is” (God)? A metaphor for higher (God) consciousness? The image of Angels speak to the secular dream of human flight and boundless freedom. We could say angels belong to us all. Could this be a common bond? We have unique points of view on many subjects, yet in a discussion of angels, we can speak of faith, belief, hope and inspiration. Perhaps, even without faith or belief, the image or idea of an angel still has significance? Artists have cited angels as muses and inspiration. Why are Angels loved and accepted by so many? Because they are faultless, devoted, majestic and divine? What would it be like to be visited by a messenger Angel? An Angel stands before You, arms outstretched… "Angel" is currently in process of completion. More Pictures to come...
