The Wish of a Fish

Pamela Jones's avatar Pamela Jones

The Wish of a Fish was inspired by a little, but mighty beta that became a member of our family in 2000. Napoleon came to be with us just days after the passing of my dad. I have always found the presence of all creatures to have a very comforting effect, especially during times of great sadness or grief. While perusing through a small pet store, something about this beautiful little guy captured my attention and my heart and he seemed to respond to my voice. So, he came home with me. His new permanent home was on our kitchen table top where the soft morning light flooded into his perfectly sized aquarium, complete with a beautiful Peace lily plant. My kids and I would often have improvised conversations at breakfast which included Napoleon and what he might be thinking. The Wish of a Fish captures the essence of a small, brave fish that evokes sweet memories of fun, creative conversation with my young children; and an invitation, even now, to play, be brave and keep on wishing!
