Seeking the Light

“Are you afraid of the darkness?” asks musician Frank Turner in his 2018 song “Blackout.” He answers: “I’m afraid of the darkness, too.” Darkness manifests in many different forms – there’s physical darkness, when night turns to day, the sun slowly sinking in the sky. But there’s also an emotional and mental darkness, an impending feeling of hopelessness. To be certain, there is darkness in our world. There is anger, hurt, pain, sadness. At times, this darkness can seem overwhelming. But with darkness, there is also light. Just like trees and flowers, we seek the light because it brings us life, joy, beauty, and hope. Where there are shadows, where there is darkness, there is also light. This series explores a search for the light around the world, with photos from the York Minster (York, England); Prospect Park (Holland, Michigan); Natural History Museum (London, England); and Window on the Waterfront (Holland, Michigan).
